Hi, my name is Michael Huxley and I am a published author, professional adventurer and founder of the travel website Bemused Backpacker which empowers and encourages everyone to travel the world independently and responsibly. My website reaches over a million travellers every year and has been featured in some of the worlds largest print and TV media including the BBC, The Guardian, USA Today and many more.
After building my website into a successful online business and leaving my former career in emergency nursing and travel medicine, I now travel the world full time and use my platform to campaign for responsible wildlife and animal tourism.
My travels have taken me to over 120 countries on almost every continent, and has allowed me to live through some amazing adventures, from trekking through the Amazon rainforest to hiking through the Himalayas, but no adventure has ever come close to trying to make a difference to the animals and wildlife I have seen around the world.
I was at the forefront of the change in ethical elephant tourism in south east Asia when no one else online was talking about it, and have campaigned against unethical and cruel tourism practices across the world. I use my platform and my voice online to be a huge advocate for responsible animal tourism and for travellers themselves to be the positive change that is needed in animal and wildlife tourism.
I want to show you that you as an individual traveller have the power to be that positive change. I want to show you how you can travel the world as a responsible global citizen, make positive choices to end animal cruelty and I want to ensure that with all of us working together, tourism can be a positive force in wildlife conservation.
